Roy Buchanan’s Nancy

Roy used a number of guitars in his career, although he was most often associated with this 1953 Fender Telecaster named Nancy.

A pioneer of the Telecaster sound, Roy worked as a sideman and solo artist and recorded two gold albums. He never achieved stardom, but he is considered a highly influential player by those that did, including Danny Gatton, Arlen Roth and Jeff Beck.

The subject of a 1971 TV documentary, Roy was subsequently given a recording contract with Polydor Records. However, he became disenchanted and quit recording in 1981, vowing never to enter a studio again unless he could record his own music his own way.

The illustration on this card was hand drawn by George Morgan and is not a photograph.
