The most important thing you need to know is that I understand sending your watch to be repaired is not something I take for lightly but trust me it will be safe. It’s your baby...believe me I get it. There are many things that can cause a 505/500 or similar electric watch movement(Ricoh/Vantage/Buren/etc...) to stop functioning properly. The hairspring being replaced can make it run fast/slow, a bad/worn contact can make it run erratic or only dial side down/up, foreign objects in the movement, missing parts, or even a bad coil can lead a 505 to not run properly. I can repair any of these issues and will do my best to converse with you through the process and let you make a decision about how you would like to proceed. I will try to keep your cost as low as possible.

This listing is for Hamilton Cal-505 electric watch service including new gold balance contact installation. There is a gold contact on the balance staff of every 505 movement that is wearing out over decades of use. That’s why we always stress “hack them when not being worn.” If your 505 watch is all of a sudden running erratic, running fast/slow(when it was running in time a short while ago), runs dial down but not dial up, or has completely stopped running there is a good chance your gold contact has worn through and needs replaced. This is the best I can do to explain some possible symptoms that are caused by a worn contact but it’s impossible to completely diagnose a particular watch until I have it on my bench. There are many other factors that could be making your watch run poorly that it is absolutely necessary to see it in person. I can provide references if you’d like. I’ve done hundreds of 505 watches so have no doubt I will repair your watch 100%.

2) I diagnose the issues and contact you before doing any work.

3) I repair your watch and ship it back. Simple and easy.

If you decide not to proceed for whatever reason I’ll ship your watch back and refund your money 100% minus return shipping. If we proceed and any additional worn or broken parts need replaced it will be an additional cost. I have plenty of spare parts but I find a lot of watches don’t need additional parts. It depends on if something or someone has caused damage other than normal wear. I do my best to be fair and keep costs as low as possible so you can enjoy your watch but if another technician has caused unnatural damage, you might need parts. What I am offering is not a simple cleaning and lubrication job...this is a very specialized procedure that will be done to your watch. Cost for standard COA(Service) & contact replacement is $175+Shipping. As you can see in the last photo the gold balance contact and lead wire are micro in size and very delicate. If by chance your contact is in good shape and all you need is a cleaning the cost will be significantly less. If your watch has been worked on and/or modified by someone there is a chance you will need a new balance assembly. I see this all too often.
