Sustainability of Going Green and Using Cloth Diapers:

About 9 in every 10 American babies use disposable diapers, adding up to a mind-blowing 27.4 billion diapers that end up in landfills each year

  • Just for the disposable diapers U.S. babies will wear, over 200,000 trees are cut down every year

  • In one year, 3.4 billion gallons of fuel oil will be used to manufacture disposable diapers.

  • Disposables generate over 3.5 million tons of waste each year.

  • Those diapers can take 500 years to decompose.

  • Disposables require 60 times the amount of solid waste that reusables do.

  • They also use 20 times the amount of raw materials, such as crude oil, compared to cloth diapers.

  • Each baby who uses disposables will burn through more than 300 pounds of wood, 20 pounds of chlorine and 50 pounds of petroleum feedstocks

Easier than you think!

I was intimidated by the possible increase of laundry & hassle too!

But it was honestly NOT at all what i thought!

Magic number for 1 baby is 25-30 diapers total, so that’s only 1 load

of diaper laundry to be done about every 3 days!

Zero or Very little change to your electric bill!

Believe me, i tested this! I hung the diapers for a month straight and

found literally no change in my electric bill! Although hanging dry

extends the life of your diapers, and allows the sun to help “bleach” out

the stains. (especially if you have energy efficient washer & dryer)

Need to get started: plus few of my recommendations :)

*25-30 cloth diapers (plus 4-6 covers if you are doing fitteds)

*1-2 nice big wet bags for diaper bag (each holds 4-6 diapers so at

       least 12x12 or 12x18 in)

*1 plastic kitchen size trashcan with swinging lid + XL wet bag to fit

(to store diapers in after rinsing but before laundry day- i keep in

        laundry room)

*1 small trashcan with lid plus wet bag to fit (to keep near changing

area to place dirty diapers in before rinsing (rinse at the end of each

Day and put in larger pail till wash day)

*25-30 thin fleece liners (to put between diaper and baby’s bum-truly is a

life saver against diaper rash! (measures about size of a booster) i used

cheap fleece from fabric store or collect remnants from someone who

      Sews!

    * diaper sprayer to attach to toilet (optional! I never used one, i just rinse

      in clean toilet)
