Initially inspired by Tiffany glass, the creative powers of the Bohemian glass factory soon found their independence, which is probably due to the Viennese design.
Joh. Loetz widow
(also Johan Lötz widow) was an important art glass manufacturer in Klostermühle, Bohemia. Loetz's works are among the most outstanding examples of Art Nouveau. In the Wottawattal valley of the Bohemian Forest was one of the oldest glassworks, which was bought in 1850 by Johann Lötz, the founder of the company, former owner of the Deffernik, Hurkental, Annatal and Vogelsang glass factories. In 1879 Max Ritter von Spaun, a grandson of Joh. Lötz, took over the factory from his grandmother and continued it under the old company "Joh. Lötz Witwe". Similar to the glasses from Louis Comfort Tiffany, Loetz was able to manufacture glasses in phenomenal decor with metallic iridescent colored glasses at a very high level. The company had contacts with other manufacturers such as J. & L. Lobmeyr and E. Bakalowits Söhne in Vienna and with the Argentor plants. Well-known artists with whom were worked were Josef Hoffmann, Koloman Moser and the Wiener Werkstätte. The culmination of the collaboration happened in the years after 1900. Kolo Moser) was an Austrian painter, graphic artist and artisan.
Kolo Moser was one of the most important artists in Vienna at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
He is one of the leading representatives of Art Nouveau.
Koloman Moser, founder of the Wiener Werkstätte with Josef Hoffmann in 1903, began his career as a painter with Viennese Secession artists in the Viennese Art Nouveau style of the 1890s. His early Secession designs are characterized by naturalistic motifs on a grid pattern. His later work for the Wiener Werkstätte included graphic design, metalwork, ceramics, leatherwork and glass as well as a more abstract and geometric decoration, also using a grid pattern.
