An original, late 1920s - early 1930s French Art Deco suspension plafonnier, created by the renowned glass manufacture Degue. This is one of the their most famous designs from the original catalog, often referred to as the "hydrangea bouquet", executed in silky smooth relief on the outer side of the frosted glass bowl. The manufacture was founded by David Gueron in 1926 in Paris, as Verrerie d'Art Degue, and was prominent in the French Art Deco movement, producing highest quality glass plafonniers until 1936, finally closing down in 1939 with the advent of World War II. As true time capsules of the period when Art Deco most blossomed, these items have historical significance and aesthetic value that is hard to overstate.

The original round glass bowl is a rounded cone, about 14 inches in diameter and 4 inches deep. The room-facing side features a lace-like relief of delicate blossoms delineated with stems. The silky matted glass finish conceals the light bulbs but lets out all of the light. The bowl is suspended from a large, elaborate 6 3/8 inch diameter canopy, made of chrome-plated solid bronze. Three elegant, reeded suspension arms, also chrome-plated, conceal all electrical wiring. Each arm supports an articulating light bulb socket, capable of floating standard U.S. household light bulbs (up to 100 Watts each) safely above the glass. The entire suspension is finished to a sparkling sheen. The overall height is about 15.5 inches. The quality is outstanding, you can hear the solid bronze ring when installing the chandelier.

The plafonnier is in excellent condition, carefully preserved from its period, and is properly signed. All electrics have been rewired with UL listed, U.S. household compatible parts, and include a connector to the house AC line. Mounting hardware is also included, and consists of a high quality standard U.S. ceiling crossbar and a nipple bolt. Light bulbs or crossbar screws are not included, as these are specific to each home. We take great care in our restoration work, we admire Art Deco, and we love our customers. The last image demonstrates some of the benefits of our plafonniers compared to other offers.
