Commemorative badge was awarded exclusively to the crewmen of the light cruiser Sverdlov which arrived to Great Britain in 1953 to participate in the naval procession at Spithead honoring the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.
This is the very first Soviet naval badge established after WW2.
Brass, enamel
33mm x 25mm

In early 1953, the Soviet Navy received an invitation to take part in the Royal Navy parade at the Speedhead Raid of the Portsmouth Naval Base on the occasion of the coronation of Her Royal Majesty Elizabeth II. The first official visit of a Soviet ship to a West European naval base for the entire post-war period, and with such a responsible mission, was coming. The choice fell on the lead cruiser of the newest post-war series "68-bis" - "Sverdlov".
