The series 7 and 8 usually have a 4 digit number starting with the series number e.g. "8240", "8250" The Model, Type and Code numbers are stamped into one of the rocker cover sides The Model begins with either 40 or 44

Manual 011 – 276781 - Single Cylinder OHV BRIGGS & STRATTON These Briggs & Stratton engines are mostly fitted to large rotary lawnmowers and compact Ride on Mowers. They are Overhead Valve and usually have an oval cartridge air filter with a plastic wrap around fuel tank with the filler cap on the right when viewed from behind the engine. Some have a cold start push primer mounted in the air filter base, some have choke or auto choke. The exhaust is on the left and carburettor on the right when viewed from behind the engine. They are usually described as Intek or Intek Edge and may have a number on the main sticker such as 55, 60 or 65

Manual 012 - 277527 - DOV 700-750 Series repair manual These engines are mostly fitted to walk behind rotary lawnmowers and have the revolutionary DOV (Direct Overhead Valve) technology. Some have a push primer for cold starting, some have the "Ready Start" automatic choke (no primer)
