Entering service back in 1980 with the Tri-National Tornado Training Establishment (TTTE), the last of these fighter-bombers were retired by the RAF in spring of 2019. Three aircraft from 9 and 31 Squadrons performed a three-day farewell tour throughout the United Kingdom. Together with No IX Squadron, the “Goldstars” were the last unit operating the Tornado, or “Tonka” as crews called them. For the farewell tour, this aircraft received a special scheme on the stabilizer, with the gold star prominently placed over the silhouette of a Tornado.
