With a total of more than 3,500 units, the Czech L-29 Delfin is one of the most-manufactured jet trainers worldwide. The prototype took off on its maiden flight in April 1959, deliveries to all countries of the Warsaw Pact (with exception of Poland) starting two years later. In cooperation with Modelyletadel, Herpa is initially releasing the “Dolphin” in the 1/72 scale in three livery variants. The East German Air Force also received more than 50 trainers which proved to be inexpensive to operate and very popular with pilots. Responsible for training was Pilot Training Wing 25 in Bautzen in Saxonia. The “dolphin” with the serial “338” was the only L-29 to be painted in a two-tone camouflage scheme for an exercise in the late 1970s. A display stand is included.
