FEATURED:   A wonderful example of that Mid Century stylized Asian design world, found here in a striking ceramic footed platter, created by an unknown Japanese artist with a great eye for abstracted shapes taken from Nature, and made with those Mid Century studio stoneware-ish colors. also with a huge nod to the Natural World.  We believe we are looking at a flowering tree, with intriguing Japanese characters telling us something about this superb platter and its design- we loved the slip glaze used to enhance the image, all done by hand, so simple and so very classic in its modern Japanese look.  This is an item that will always look current and modern, no matter how many decades go by.  This was made in the Mid Century era of beautifully designed and made Japanese table items, all created for export to the US market, where the sleek, simple, clean look was hotter than hot, just as it is now!  Which goes to prove that great design is always going to be great design, no matter the era, country, artist or style.

This platter, which is actually a shallow bowl shape, with a great foot to keep hot foods off your table surface finish, will be perfect year-round for any meal, any occasion, and easy to display your delicious cooking skills with!  You will be reaching for this often, we think, and enjoy its beauty and function for many years to come!

Measures:  11 inches diameter, 2 inches tall, with a stable round foot to keep hot foods from marring a finished table surface, stamped 'Japan' on the base, with no manufacturer/artist information known.  Appears to have never been used, and if so, very minimally.  Made of ceramic,  with hand-applied slip glaze and decorations.  We do not write Japanese and do not know what the characters impressed into the platter say, but felt they were as interesting as the main image, and will let the buyer solve this mystery if he/she chooses to.  We do not know if this is ovenproof or microwaveable.  A beautiful, rare and striking item to have as a work of Japanese ceramic art as well as a functional platter for table service, and one that will last for many years ahead.
