REFERENCE LAPTOP #16  -- FREE ECONOMY SHIPPING!!

This is a DELL LATITUDE E6400 laptop that has been cleaned and upgraded to a nice dual-boot Linux machine ready for use as a great lightweight Internet browsing, e-mail, and general-purpose laptop.  As this is and older (but quite capable)model, Linux runs far better, faster, and more efficiently than attempting to run Windows 10 on this laptop.  I see many older laptops advertised on E-bay with Windows 10 installed on them –please beware of this because Windows 10 will likely not supply the drivers for older hardware so certain things may not work properly if at all!  This laptop is set up to dual boot to either the latest version of Ubuntu Linux Mate 20.04 LTS (long-term support) Desktop 64-bit-OR- Linux Mint (Cinnamon) Mate Desktop 20.1 LTS 64-bit – it’s like having two laptops in one.  Plus, the files and documents you save on the laptop can be accessed by either operating system.  This is the perfect opportunity to become familiar with two of the most popular and easy-to-use Linux distributions available and the learning curve is minimal because they are very Windows-like in functionality.  I’ve pre-installed both Linux versions for you to make sure they operate well and to ensure functionality.  Of course, Linux is a free open-source platform devoid of many Windows issues and apps are free and easily installed via each operating system’s software managers.  Both Ubuntu and Mint have plenty of productivity, music, multimedia apps and games and both have basic full-featured apps already installed including a complete office suite, and both of these distributions of Linux are well supported.  This is the perfect opportunity to learn to use a Linux-based machine with all the advantages, or if you’re already familiar with Linux, just to have a handy extra laptop just for e-mailing and web browsing!  Ubuntu Linux and Linux Mint are two of the easiest, but full featured, distributions to use and both have a widely supported community.

This machine is reasonably clean with minimal wear and scratches and fully functional.  I take pride in repurposing these older machines that still have plenty of life in them when not pushed beyond their reasonable limits.  I’ve also updated to the latest (and final) BIOS version.  It includes a **NEW** battery in perfect working condition (with a unique onboard charge amount pushbutton indicator!), a new CMOS battery which should last for about 10 years, and also a **NEW** AC power adapter (not shown in pics).  Known cosmetic defects:  some minor scratches/scuffs on outer case, some normal wear on the keyboard and touchpad, and a few minor scuffs on the screen which does not detract from overall picture quality, missing rubber feet (see pic), a small crack in the lower left screen bezel, and some minor separation of the upper two corners of the screen bezel -- none of these affect any functionality.

I sell these machines as projects to repurpose them and only make a little profit to cover the replacement parts and time spent.  I will also include a DVD copy of Ubuntu Linux 20.4 LTS Mate 64-bit and Linux Mint 20.1 Mate LTS 64-bit, as well as a copy of the basic setup and features manual for this laptop.  If not using a Bluetooth mouse I suggest buying a wireless USB mouse with a dongle for this laptop – which works flawlessly with this laptop and Linux as a plug-n-play device.  Note that although this laptop has Bluetooth, not all Bluetooth devices may work well with it.  FREE ECONOMY SHIPPING!!   Please ask any questions BEFORE purchasing and thanks for looking!

NOTE:  Because this is an electronic device and i have no control over how the buyer uses it after received, I CANNOT accept returns unless the machine arrives physically damaged as evidenced by shipper handling.  This laptop is otherwise guaranteed to work as described and I stand by my good reputation.  These are not "buy and try" laptops as it would not be feasible for me to sell them otherwise.  Thank you for your understanding!
