1936: Lucien Bourrache is a soldier in the Orange Spahis regiment. In his magnificent uniform, he has all the women in the garrison town panting, which earns him the nickname "Ladykiller". One evening, on leave in Cannes, he falls in love with a beautiful, rich woman, with whom he will live a story made of expectations, then of simple pleasures, and finally of more and more serious quarrels, as the insurmountable nature of their differences comes to the fore.

Dans son magnifique uniforme, il affole tous les cœurs de sa ville de garnison, ce qui lui vaut le surnom de « Gueule d'amour ». Un soir, en permission à Cannes, il tombe amoureux d'une belle femme riche, avec laquelle il va vivre une histoire faite d'attentes, puis de bonheurs simples, et enfin de brouilles de plus en plus graves à mesure que se révèle le caractère insurmontable de leur différence de milieu.
