POWER SUPPLY RESTORATION / CAPACITOR RECAPPING SERVICE for the
ROLAND DEP-5  FX / Reverb

Keeping Vintage Gear alive

Problem: Your DEP-5 has boot problems, needs to "warm up", is acting up, makes funny woosh, pop & click noises now and then . . or is not powering-on at all*?

Possible Solution: The exchange of all power supply related, worn out Capacitors ["Re-Cap" Service].
Just in short. Aluminium electrolytic capacitors are staple parts in electronic circuits. Unfortunately electrolytic capacitors weaken/fail over time. The liquid electrolyte inside the caps becomes dry and the capacitors are losing their spec-ed filter capacity and become more and more resistive [not good]. Defective/tired capacitors in a power supply or in key-positions in the psu circuit means the PSU is no longer able to fulfill its purpose to provide the stable, filtered direct-current voltage required by the design and components [especially important for the digital IC's]. Boot problems, noise and malfunctions [sometimes only occasinal or at random] or "waiting a few minutes until the device has warmed up" are often the signs for power supply issues caused by worn-out capacitors. In its final stage it can render the entire device non-functional. It's a common problem especially in a device like the DEP-5 that generates a fair amount of heat inside the enclosure which shortens the capacitors life span.
Even when the equipment is not showing any obvious symptoms yet, exchanging 30+ year old power supply caps will breath some new strength into the DEP-5 and help to extend the operational life of this nice piece of vintage gear.

This Service includes
*The test of all voltage regulators -and their replacement if faulty- if your DEP-5 is not even [properly] switching on anymore.
The exchange of all Eletrolytic Power Supply and Bypass Capacitors for new 105 degree, long-life, low impedance* types from the higher grade series of Rubycon, Panasonic, Nichicon -depending on their position in the device [*if allowed in this particular circuit position]
For proper A/B comparisons with the clients device, -to find out if everything sounds/works as it should-,  I have my own healthy DEP-5 at hand

I'm happy to answer your questions . . and could also list  -here on ebay as a "buy now"-  a different service that your gear is in need for.

Other DEP-5 Problems and possible Service Solutions [not part of this "buy now" service]

Very bad Crackle Noises / Not Passing Audio Properly or not passing audio at all [very common]
Problem: Your Roland DEP-5 [or your SRV-2000] does not pass audio, passes audio only badly, or only through one channel . . and makes most likely pretty bad crackling noises.
Solution: The removal of any of the known obstacles in the audio path. Exchanging worn relays, bridging/fixing the notorious gain switch on the back, fixing/bridging broken traces in the pcb's audio path

Empty Battery  [Battery Holder Install]
Problem: The soldered-to-the-circuit-board CR2032 Coin-Cell battery is empty and needs to be de-soldered to give space for a fresh replacement CR2032-with-solder-flags . . work that can be a bit of a pita.
Solution: Battery exchange inclusive the install of a Battery Holder for an easy DIY battery replacement in the future. The battery holder accepts the plain standard version of the CR2032 so the harder-to-find & bit more expensive version with solder flags isn't needed anymore

Please have a look in my other buy-now offer for this

[Problem descriptions and service offers are similar to my SRV-2000 service offers since both devices come from the same family]

Combining Services
Since the lids from the device will be removed anyways for one service I'm happy to combine these services and make you an offer [and put this up on ebay as "buy-now" service]

Turnaround Time
The average turnaround time for this service -from receiving the device till the day of the return shipping- is about 7-10 business days

Procedure
After purchasing the service I'll send you my shipping address. Please ship your equipment tracked & insured and safely packed in a well padded box [rack ears like to bend if a weak shipping box is roughly handled during transport]. Online bookable parcel-agents like parcel2go, interparcel, parcelmonkey representing the services from the known parcel companies [UPS, ParcelForce, Hermes etc.] for a good price. If you have any issues in regards shipping your device to me feel free to get in contact.
I'll send you a confirmation when your device has arrived and also give it a test run before starting with the service/repair.
When the service has been completed I'll return the device to your given address and keep you informed with the shipping.

Pre-Paid Return Shipping Costs
The £14.90 pre-paid for the shipping  -as part of the service purchase- covers only the return shipping for the device to Mainland UK addresses [tracked, with £200.00 insured].  Return shipments to Channel Islands, Highlands and other by the shippers specified "remote area addresses" will have slightly higher shipping costs. A possible price difference to the pre-paid shipping costs would need to be covered by the service/repair customer.

I'm happy to answer your questions

Disclaimer & Additional Info
"Condition of the item" = "New" [as stated in this listing]. The listed "item" is a "new" service/repair -as described.
Please note that this service is not a "will fix it all" solution if there are already issues with your device that are not related to the PSU / clean stable power. I'm doing my best to revive the device but the power supply re-cap service [or a new voltage regulator] can't guarantee full functionallity if your DEP-5 has a defective or defective components/parts outside the psu circuit causing the problem. In general, when it comes to spare parts, the Vacuum Fluorescent Display [VFD] and some of the [custom] IC's are obsolete now and there are no replacements available unfortunately.
> Before shipping: If these are important to you, please carry out a Midi-Data-Dump of your stored user-programs, just for the case. I'm not held responsible if the user data/programs are getting lost during the service procedure
The offer covers only the recap-service incl. the new capacitors, -as described above and shown in the photos-, and does not include the purchase of a Roland DEP-5 or any other service/device/tool
