About the Stamps

This sheet of commemorative stamps honoring each state of the United States during the Bicentennial Year was issued on February 23, 1976 in Washington, D.C. and depicts the flags of the individual states in order of the admission of the states to the Union.

The first 13 stamps, for the original 13 colonies, are arranged by the order in which the states ratified the Constitution.

The sheet was designed by Walt Reed of Westport, Connecticut; the modeler was Peter Cocci.  The stamps were produced on a gravure press in yellow, magenta, cyan, black, red and blue.
