A shiny example of the Aesthetic Movement Victorian design with Japanese styled rounds and bands.
 
A heavy base metal has been plated with silver and etched with Asian designs on the lid. The top has a repousse band on the edge with a repeating floral and arabesque design. The piece is heavy and the base rests on a round flat base. The dish has circular rope handles on both sides, and a pair of prongs to hold the butter knife on the front. The lid has a round elevated finial.
 
The base has the marks QUADRUPLE PLATE HARD WHITE METAL in a circle around the name E. G. WEBSTER & SON N.Y. The center of the circle shows a flexed arm with a hammer. There is the production number 80 etched by the mark. There is a scratched letter W by the mark.
 
MEASUREMENTS
9” (22.9 cm) wide x 6 ½” (16.5 cm) diameter x 5 ½” (14.0 cm) tall. Weighs 1 lb 7.0 oz (650 g)
 
CONDITION  
There is a small dent on mouth flange and another in the bottom of the well. There are scratches and silver losses on the outer surfaces and small silver losses in the interior well. Please be sure to review the photos. It could use re-plating but it still has a nice shiny silver look.
  
An exotic well executed butter for the Victorian aesthetic. It will look great with shabby chic, Victorian or eclectic decors.
