(This is a new auction, not a relisting!) This is an extremely nice New Old Stock example of a 24½" Schwinn-Approved Huret speedometer cable (still in its original parts bag), part number 08 470, just what you need for Huret-built Schwinn Approved or Sting-Ray speedometer installations on either Schwinn Krates or 27" lightweight 10-speeds. Yes, it does fit bike sizes in between, such as with 26" front wheels, although it is too long for a 20" Sting-Ray installation. (See my other listings for a New Old Stock 22½" Sting-Ray or Manta-Ray cable, in an auction scheduled to end 15 minutes before this one.) This is intended to fit the dropped front axle of a 16" Krate wheel, which is 2" further away from the handlebars than that of a 20" Sting-Ray. This is compatible with all Huret-manufactured Schwinn Approved speedometers (usually stamped "MADE IN FRANCE" on the back), as well as Huret's own brand of speedometers. It does not fit the large, round, 3"-diameter Stewart-Warner speedometers. This is in extremely good New Old Stock condition with no age discoloration, still stapled into its original parts bag. Both collars are clean and securely attached; the cable flexes well, will uncoil smoothly and work fine. CAUTION: Please be sure that your speedometer head is turning freely before installing this cable. Bicycle speedometer cables usually break because the speedometer head has seized up from years of storage. Replacing the cable will not free up the speedo head; it will simply break the new cable as soon as you start pedaling. To check that your speedometer head is able to turn properly, insert a small flat-blade screwdriver in the back of the speedo head (where the cable goes in), and be sure that the square-holed inner barrel of the speedometer head can turn freely before connecting this cable.
