MORE INFO: Elvis returned to Las Vegas in 1969, with his show opening at the International Hotel on July 31 to rave reviews and packed houses. So successful was his opening night show that Colonel immediately negotiated a more favorable contract (on a tablecloth) with Alex Shoofey, president of the International, that very evening. The following year, Elvis! 1970 Summer Festival was documented in the MGM film Elvis: That's the Way It Is, which chronicled his return to live performances.
The International became the Hilton in 1976 and Elvis continued to perform there.
Today the Las Vegas Hilton is now the Westgate Hotel.
