Photograph Notes: One of many immaculate exhibits at the Imperial War Museum. Introduced in 1936 as a reconnaissance aircraft for Coastal Command; this one entered service in 1938 and was used throughout WWII by the Air Transport Utility. A nostalgic exhibit for me as I was an Air Cadet in the 1950s; I used to put on my uniform and cycle to RAF Bovingdon TL0002 : Bovingdon Airfield from the air and ask the guard at the gate 'Any chance of a flight Sir?'. A communications squadron using Ansons [with normal cabin and no gun] was based there to deliver staff around the country. I had several flights around the country [following our route on 6d Esso road maps] and occasionally in the right hand seat with pilots doing circuits to maintain their currency in certain procedures. I do not think one could do that today!
