About the book: Seventy-seven drawings: a splendid portfolio of vigorous outdoor scenes--portrait vignettes, full-page, and double-page illustrations--by this most famous of Western artists, accompanied by verses by the author of the prototype Western novel, The Virginian. Included is a double-page spread in color, "Caught in the Circle: the last stand of three troopers and a scout overtaken by a band of hostile Indians" which is everything a Remington should be. Dykes, Remington 333; Howes R204 Original pictorial boards, cloth spine, somewhat worn.

Large oblong 4to (12 3/4" x 9 3/4"), white pictorial boards beveled gilt edges. 15 half-tone plates with lettered/printed tissue guards. First Edition. Introduction by George S. Rowe, describes how Remington captures the Romantic image of the Indian as a fighter and a natural fixture of a frontier that is now gone, preserved only in art and imagination.

About PIN-UP ARTIST WHO OWNED THIS BOOK: 
Arnold Armitage (1899-1991) was a British-born artist and illustrator, best known for his work with pin-up art. He moved to the United States around 1925 and settled in Hollywood, California, working with Foster and Kleiser Company, which produced billboards. Also, as a teacher at LA's first independent art school, the Hollywood Art Center School and was friend of artist, Henry Lovins. This book has a very interesting personal history!
