Photograph Notes: View is to the southwest. Generally, the cottages are rectangular in shape and are 7m long x 4.75m wide with 75cm thick windowless walls. Some cottages have a second, much smaller room at one end. The cottages are usually oriented with the long sides in a south-to-north direction. Both the family & some livestock would occupy the main room. Beds consisted of heather & rushes laid onto a stone slab. Nearby fields consisted of 'lazybeds' or fields with south-to-north furrows that were used to grow potatoes & some grain and allowed water to enter at the top and drain out at the bottom. These cottages & 'lazybed' fields can be clearly seen in zoomed satellite views per Yahoo Maps.
