Photograph Notes: This Carving has been created from a single Horse Chestnut tree stump by sculptor Anthony Hammond Tom Brown Tivey born 1892 in Burslem, Wolstanton, Staffordshire. Tom was the fourth of five children born to parents Tom whom he was named after and Louisa Teresa Prince. Tom served throughout the first World War, he suffered from malaria and a shot gun wound to his lung. He had a varied working life, starting his career as a Bank Clerk for Lloyds Bank in Cheshire, before working for the General Post Office and later in life he became a crime novelist writing such works as Marenka of Monteney, Trapline, A tale of the North, When Daylight Dies and Riddle of the Snows. In 1932 he married Lillian Madge Birk in Wandsworth, London.
