Not your brass flow meter that are a dime a dozen on eBay, this is a vintage REMOTE REGISTER or repeater like you would see mounted on the side of a house or cow barn.

Simply take an appropriate input signal (and the data plate by Veeder-Root of Hartford Conn says that you need an 8 VDC signal) which then charges the capacitors and then trips the solenoid causing the lever to move the gears!

If you want to reset to zero, disconnect the power and manually hold the trip lever down 1/2 way while rotating the gears backwards.

This meter reads in 1,000 gallon steps so it is good to read up to 99,999,000 gallons as is.

Steampunk uses:

Get a 120 volt to 8vdc transformer and have this clicking away in the base of a table lamp.

Farmers: get a digital thermometer with appropriate output and measure growing degree days (additional equipment required)

Just get this for the capacitors!
