LOCTITE® 242 50ml Medium Strength Threadlocker 23398 Industrial Super Glue

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

LOCTITE® 242® is designed for the locking and sealing of threaded fasteners which require normal disassembly with
standard hand tools. The product cures when confined in the absence of air between close fitting metal surfaces and
prevents loosening and leakage from shock and vibration. Suitable for applications on less active substrates such
as plated surfaces, where disassembly with hand tools is required for servicing. The thixotropic nature of LOCTITE®
242® reduces the migration of liquid product after application to the substrate.

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS:

The product provides quick fixture times on steel, brass and stainless steel of 5, 15 and 20 min respectively. LOCTITE 242 is thixotropic to prevent migration after application and is intended for fasteners that require normal disassembly with standard hand tools.

  • Top Pick Loctite® 242™ Primer-less Thread-locker is an oil tolerant, removable, medium strength, blue thread-locker designed for the locking and sealing of threaded fasteners between 1/4" and 3/4" (6 to 20 mm).

  • It not only works on active metals (e.g. brass, copper) but also on passive substrates such as stainless steel and plated surfaces.

  • It tolerates minor surface contamination from various oils, such as cutting, lubrication, anti-corrosion and protection fluids.

Where aqueous washing systems are used to clean the surfaces before bonding, it is important to check for compatibility of the washing solution with the adhesive. In some cases these aqueous washes can affect the cure and performance of the adhesive.
This product is not normally recommended for use on plastics (particularly thermoplastic materials where stress cracking of
the plastic could result). Users are recommended to confirm compatibility of the product with such substrates.

Directions for use:
For Assembly
1. For best results, clean all surfaces (external and internal) with a LOCTITE® cleaning solvent and allow to dry.
2. If the material is an inactive metal or the cure speed is too slow, spray all threads with Activator 7471™ or
7649™ and allow to dry.
3. Shake the product thoroughly before use.
4. To prevent the product from clogging in the nozzle, do not allow the tip to touch metal surfaces during application.
5. For Thru Holes, apply several drops of the product onto the bolt at the nut engagement area.
6. For Blind Holes, apply several drops of the product down the internal threads to the bottom of the hole.
7. For Sealing Applications, apply a 360° bead of product to the leading threads of the male fitting, leaving the first
thread free. Force the material into the threads to thouroughly fill the voids. For bigger threads and voids,
adjust product amount accordingly and apply a 360° bead of product on the female threads also.
8. Assemble and tighten as required.

For Disassembly
1. Remove with standard hand tools.
2. In rare instances where hand tools do not work because of excessive engagement length, apply localized heat to
nut or bolt to approximately 250 °C. Disassemble while hot.

For Cleanup
1. Cured product can be removed with a combination of soaking in a Loctite solvent and mechanical abrasion
such as a wire brush.

LOCTITE® 243 50ml Medium Strength Threadlocker 24350 Industrial Super Glue

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

LOCTITE® Product 243 is a single component anaerobic thread-locking material, which is thixotropic and develops medium strength. The product cures when confined in the absence of air between close fitting metal surfaces and is particularly suitable for less active substrates such as stainless steel and plated surfaces.

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS:

Prevents loosening and leakage of threaded fasteners. Particularly suitable for applications such as pump or motor mounting bolts, engine rocker nuts or equipment housing screws, where disassembly with hand tools is required for servicing.

Storage:

Store product in the unopened container in a dry location.

Storage information may be indicated on the product container

labelling.

Directions for use:

1. Bond areas should be clean and free from grease. Clean all surfaces with a Loctite® cleaning solvent and allow to

dry.

2. To improve bonding on low energy plastic surfaces, Loctite® Primer may be applied to the bond area. Avoid

applying excess Primer. Allow the Primer to dry.

3. LOCTITE® Activator may be used if necessary. Apply it to one bond surface (do not apply activator to the primed

surface where Primer is also used). Allow the Activator to dry.

4. Apply adhesive to one of the bond surfaces (do not apply the adhesive to the activated surface). Do not use items

like tissue or a brush to spread the adhesive. Assemble the parts within a few seconds. The parts should be

accurately located, as the short fixture time leaves little opportunity for adjustment.

5. LOCTITE®  Activator can be used to cure fillets of product outside the bond area. Spray or drop the activator on the

excess product.

6. Bonds should be held fixed or clamped until adhesive has fixtured.

7. Product should be allowed to develop full strength before subjecting to any service loads (typically 24 to 72 hours

after assembly, depending on bond gap, materials and ambient conditions).
