Photograph Notes: Opened for horse racing in 1884, though hare coursing had been run on the site for the previous eight years, to take advantage of the recently opened station at Plumpton on the Lewes-Keymer Junction line. Viewed from a rather wobbly fence next to Plumpton Lane and looking across the course and down the hill towards the three main stands which are from left to right, the Sussex Stand, Southdown Stand and Lewes Stand.
