Rare autographed Shaquille O'Neal first budget priced Shaq prototype shoe 1996
One of less than 50 prototype samples made in 1996. You can see his signature on the side and his size 22 on the outsole. Shaq decided to make an affordable shoe for low income kids after he was accosted by a mom after leaving a practice in Orlando. She criticized him for charging over $200 for his Reebok shoe and told him that somebody needs to make an affordable shoe. That led to his partnership with ACI, Int.,an importer of low price footwear, to develop a Shaq shoe for $39.99. You can see his future Dunkman logo on the side but this was marketed as a Shaq brand at that time. The Dunkman brand and logo were not developed and sold until 2001.This a left shoe only due to being made as a sales sample to show retail buyers. This exact style was never produced but led to future designs that sold over 170M pair.
