Shungite is ancient 2 billion years old carbonaceous mineral found in Precambrian Earth layers at the times when nothing else alive still existed.

Karelia, Russia is the only place in the world where the large deposits of this mineral are found with the highest Carbon fullerens content (on average 40%). Shungite has been used in Russia for water cleansing and healing baths since Peter I opened the Marcian Resort on the lake nearby shungite deposits in 1719 to heal his army soldiers.

Authentic Shungite mineral is expensive and electrically conductive. It smudges your hands with black dust when you touch it. It is heavy, priced by weight (grams). Low-grade Shungite (Carbon fullerens content less than 29%) is only certified to be used in building/construction and may be unsafe for water treatment.

True stone has white quartz, iron and gold inclusions, - not to be totally black. It has high density and is very absorbent, composed of 30-98% Carbon and 5-60% Silicon. 

Elite Shungite (1st grade, 98%) is rare and collectible, especially the larger specimens. It is light, glossy andvery fragile, hence, it is never used for carvings or pendants with holes in it.

To use as pendant, use fabric net holders or metal string wrapped around the stone. Dont make holes or you will break the stone.

Elite Shungite is mined by hand in very difficult and often dangerous conditions, found within rock formations in thin irregular layers, it is taken as found without cleansing, so the specimens may contain pieces of other minerals, but no inclusions. 

It's main use is to enrich water with life-giving and youth-promoting carbon molecules. The larger pieces are rare to find and are collectible.
