Photograph Notes: If you walk along the pier you get a chance to read all the interesting signs positioned at intervals that tell you the history and fascinating snippets of information about activities in the area. This one is about the Supermarine aircraft factory and its chief designer, a certain RJ Mitchell, designer of the Supermarine Spitfire. The factory was actually at Woolston on the opposite side of Southampton Water. Views from the pier include the new developments at Hythe Marina, and the old slipway here at Hythe.
