FEATURED:   A beautiful, charming example of very successful early British advertising, this full-page color ad for PEARS SOAP, showing a beautiful, exotically-dressed, smiling girl bathing a happy baby with, of course, Pears Soap, the bath scene surrounded by lovely roses and beautiful tiles in a garden. Gorgeous colors and details make this a wonderful item to frame and hang in a bathroom, a child's room or really anywhere you'd like unique charm and a romantic cottage look.   This ad, which had been taken out of a 1895 issue of THE ILLUSTRATED LONDON NEWS CHRISTMAS ISSUE, is an actual ad from that magazine, not a reproduction.  We don't know who the artist was for this particular ad, but certainly he/she had talent and a great eye for romantic scenes and charming people!   On the other side we find in black & white great ads for LAURENT-PERRIER CHAMPAGNE, JEREZCONA WINE, PASTA MACK, D'ALMAINE & CO. PIANOS & ORGANS, ETC. all of which offer a slice into early advertising and how people dealt with health and beauty issues, and a glimpse of what life was like way, way back when- Champagne and lavender water, things have not changed much over the years, have they?   This great piece of advertising art is in terrific condition, with a little surface scuffing due to storage and age, and is ready to be framed up and enjoyed in your home today!

PEARS SOAP, founded in England,  is still very much in business today, being the oldest continuous soap brand in the world, the first mass-marketed transparent soap,  and has been in business for over 225 years.   Thomas Barratt, a relative of the founder, is considered the father of modern advertising, an original 'Mad Man' for his many successful ideas to market his family's soap, using fine art paintings, politically incorrect depictions of figures, promotions and ideas, and charming children and beautiful young women, including Lillie Langtry,  ( a gorgeous British famous stage actress, socialite and celebrity, and the first celebrity paid to endorse a product) to market this fragrant, mild transparent soap, first only to the elite and rich, then to everyone who wanted to buy it.  They built an empire on the campaign of Pears being a mild, scented 'natural' soap that would make your complexion pale and perfect, and could be used for everyone from infants to seniors safely, during a time when arsenic, lead and lye were used for face & bath soaps!  This lovely, charming ad, with its romantic, beautiful scene, a gorgeous young woman and baby, is a perfect example of the great advertising campaign behind this mild soap, still used by millions today world-wide.

MEASURES:  11.25 inches X 15.75 inches, ( this was found already removed from an 1895 magazine, and will need slight trimming to make one side even for framing) in very good condition, either side could be easily framed as a great example of Victorian advertising in England.  Wonderful chromolithograph full- color printing and full-page ad, taken from the Illustrated London News, their Christmas issue for 1895.  From a non-smoking estate of an advertising collector with great, interesting tastes and style.  We do not believe this has ever been framed.  In great condition, and beautiful colors and artwork make this a superb unique piece for your home, adding a unique charm and splash of beauty to any room it's hung in.  It is the little things in our home that can make such a big difference in our daily lives, and we feel this wonderful piece is timeless, full of innocent charm and has a lovely atmosphere!
