The Betrayal of Jimmy
The Betrayal of Jimmy is DLC for Mafia II. Once installed, the story starts as a standalone scenario from the main menu. This add-on features an entirely new character as protagonist, not featured in the base game. You take the role of Jimmy, a type of a "cleaner" for the mob who does the dirty work for them. There are three main mission types which appear on the map and can be played in any order to progress the story. Mission types consist of stealing cars for your employers, taking jobs from Sal Gravina, head of the Italian gang, or taking jobs from Tam Brodie, head of the Irish gang. Most of the jobs from your employers are to eliminate competition in the underworld, namely Bombers and Triads.
Similar to the base game, you own a couple of apartments, you can collect cars by bringing them to your garages, buy weapons, visit diners, buy clothes, bribe cops and more. However, this DLC is much more action-oriented and involves a lot of shooting and little to no stealth. The game features over 20 missions in total, and all of the missions are time-based giving you a certain amount of time to finish them or fail if the time runs out. The more time remaining after successfully completing the mission, the higher the score is. All finished missions can be replayed to try and earn higher score.
As the name implies, by the time you reach the end and eliminate all the loose ends for the Italian and Irish gangs, the only loose end that remains will be none other than yourself. You get betrayed and caught by the police. This paves the road for Jimmy's Vendetta, a second DLC which continues the story.
Jimmy's Vendetta
Jimmy's Vendetta is DLC for Mafia II. Gun-for-hire Jimmy got betrayed by his employees at the end of The Betrayal of Jimmy DLC. This add-on continues the story by starting with a prison break with Jimmy breaking out and planning his revenge. Similar to the previous DLC, there are three types of missions: stealing cars to earn some cash, taking on the Irish gang, and taking on the Italian gang.
Until your vengeance is over, you are no longer a gun-for-hire, but a man with two goals. To mess with your enemy's operations, you need to bleed them dry of income, put the fear of God in them, and when there's nothing left to take from them, to take them out. All missions are once again timed, and you earn a higher score if you spend less time on completing the mission. Additionally, you can earn score by killing enemies, making combo kills, drifting, jumping and high-speed driving.
This DLC runs as a separate scenario from the main game. All the base game locations (gas stations, clothes stores, diners, gun stores etc.) are still available to visit and actions such as stealing cars, collecting cars, using your apartments, bribing cops can still be performed.
Joe's Adventures
Joe's Adventures is the last DLC for Mafia II game and tells the story of Joe Barbaro during the time Vito has been in jail in the main game. After Vito's been ratted out and caught by the police, Joe goes to catch the gas station guy that squealed on Vito and make sure he doesn't testify. But it proves that alone won't be enough as there is another rat and entire family could be in trouble if he talks, so Joe infiltrates the witness protection place and takes care of the guy once and for all after a wild chase on the frozen river.
But despite all that, Vito goes to jail and Joe ends up with a bounty on his head and is forced to leave the city. Five years later, he returns to the city and continues the life of crime. From there, the plethora of missions become available in a similar manner to those in Jimmy's add-on contents. The missions are also much more versatile and the whole DLC is much closer to the base game and as such features new in-game cinematics with voice-acting, though they only appear during the tutorial missions and key missions for the story, while other side missions just let you take them to earn cash or score in order to unlock newer missions to progress the story.
This DLC partially lets you used clothes/vehicle DLC packs for Vito, but you will only be able to find vehicles in Joe's garage, you won't find Vito's special suits in Joe's wardrobe. Joe's Adventures add-on also features 19 new Playboy magazines you can find and collect during key missions around the town.
