These exquisite glasses have been expertly hand blown in sparkling clear glass with an additional layer of bubble filled glass casing the lower portion of the elegantly shaped bowls. This creates a wonderfully simple and random form of decoration that looks stunning when the glass is filled with coloured fluid.
The randomly sized encapsulated bubbles add a magnificent jewel like sparkle to the glass and beautifully contrast the smooth top rim, knopped stems and wide stable feet.
The effect of the sparkling effervescence bubbles is really quite spectacular, creating an exuberant sense of movement within the solid glass.
Not only are these glasses visually spectacular each piece is perfectly balanced and fits beautifully in ones grasp ensuring they are an absolute delight to hold and sip from.
SIZE: Each glass stands approx 155mms tall, measures 65mms in width at its widest and 55mms in diameter at the top rim. Being hand blown pieces these glasses have a subtle unevenness and vary ever so slightly in size. This adds to their charm and beauty and reinforces that these are individual and unique hand crafted pieces.
CONDITION: These glasses are presented in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. The glass retains a magnificent sparkle with no frosting or clouding. These pieces appear to have had very little, if any use and present spectacularly.
MARKS: One of the two glasses is beautifully signed to the base with the artists' engraved "J. Santos" signature.
THE ARTIST: Julio Santos was a highly skilled and renowned master glass blower and is well represented in galleries both in Australia and overseas. The Sydney Powerhouse Museum have acquired at least six of his pieces and his work also features in the NGV and National Gallery of Australia collections.
