Description: This academic 3-volume collection of folktales and legends from across Iceland in one special anthology. Сollection compiled by an outstanding Icelandic scientist Sigurður Nordal, herein lies a treasure trove of tales from a wealth of Icelandic storytellers. From a elves in stones and a hidden people in centre Iceland, to a gigantic mountain trolls and ancient water monsters, from a mysterious ghosts and a wizards living among people to a black magic rites and a treasure buried in caves, this book celebrates the distinct character of Iceland's different customs, beliefs and traditions, and is a treat for all who enjoy a strange Icelandic folktales.

Sigurdur Jóhannesson Nordal was Icelandic philologist, scholar, critic, and writer in many genres. He was influential in forming the theory of the Icelandic sagas and folktales as works of literature composed by individual authors. From 1951 til 1957 he was the Icelandic ambassador.

Those who are thoroughly acquainted with the literature of Iceland are agreed that, so far as the historical part of it is concerned, it holds a distinguished place among the literatures of the world. And though the authors of Icellandic sagas, have been men of high learning and cultivated minds, Icelandic peasants, uncultivated and unlearned, have been those who have handed down to us the traditional lore of the country, the poetical and imaginative tales of elves, trolls, ghosts, goblins, and monsters; some contenting themselves with telling them often by the winter fire; others adding stories from their own mental testimonies. The stories are intimately linked to the Iceland's landscape and reflect the hopes, fears, hardships and preoccupations of everyday life. To the Icelanders, these stories were an integral part of the cultural and psychological fabric of their nation. They were a part of their identity, a reflection of the struggles, hopes, resilience and endurance of Icelanders.

About me

My name is Árni and I live in Iceland. I'm not a professional trader or seller - I'm scientist and teacher, but it so happened that I sell here the Icelandic Golden Root, Angelica archangelica, Arctic Thyme, Icelandic books, Bibles, etc. Why? Because I am interested in comparative linguistics and for many years I have been collecting and studying bible texts in many languages. I collect Bibles in different world languages and I spend a lot of money on the purchase of these. So I decided to sell the excess items in eBay to get some money for buying a new books and Bibles.

You should definitely visit my little eBay-store if you are interested in Icelandic medicinal plants growing in harsh arctic nature, surounded by the mountains, glaciers and volcanoes, which can significantly enhance your health. I can also provide different Icelandic books like Bibles, dictionaries, textbooks and etc., that can enrich your multilingual library.
