In 2017, the Royal Australian Mint introduced a captivating series
of circulating and collector coins that celebrate one of Australia's cherished
children's stories - Possum Magic.
Possum Magic, authored by Mem Fox, unfolds the tale of two
endearing Australian possums, Grandma Poss and her grandchild Hush. Initially
penned in 1978, the book faced rejection from nine publishers. However, Omnibus
Books recognized its potential, requesting a reduction in size and a focus on
Australian animals, resulting in the publication of Possum Magic. The narrative
revolves around Grandma Poss using her magical powers to make Hush invisible,
intending to shield the child from the perils of the Australian Bush. As the
story unfolds, Grandma Poss and Hush embark on a journey across Australia to
discover the cure to make Hush visible again.
The coin series comprises four $1 coins and three color-printed $2
coins, featuring evocative illustrations by Julie Vivas, the artist behind the
original story's visual elements. Additionally, Vivas crafted a new reverse
design showcasing Hush engrossed in reading, a charming scene that graces a one
cent coin. These coins artfully capture the essence of Possum Magic, delighting
collectors and readers alike with the timeless magic of this beloved Australian
tale.
The delightful coin from the Possum Magic series captures the whimsical moment
when Hush, having enjoyed a Vegemite sandwich, discovers her once-invisible
tail is now visible. The endearing scene depicts the baby possum holding a
half-eaten sandwich, gleefully looking back at her now-visible tail.
Encircling this charming portrayal is a vibrant coloured ring,
primarily adorned in shades of purple, featuring purple, dark pink, light pink,
orange, and pale blue stars.
Positioned above the enchanting illustration is the series' title,
"POSSUM MAGIC," while below, the coin proudly displays its value and
denomination: TWO DOLLARS. This heartwarming design pays homage to the
cherished moments in Possum Magic, adding a touch of magic to the coin's
appeal.

UNC: Uncirculated – These coins have not
reached “commerce circulation” and are taken directly from Ram (Royal
Australian Mint) rolls and bags.
Uncirculated
coins are made using the same method as circulating coins but are struck
multiple times with greater force, resulting in a cleaner coin.
These
days security rolls (Armaguard/Prosegur) &/or security bags are also
classified as UNC by the general public.
*Please
note that due to the high-speed production techniques, even uncirculated coins
may show slight imperfections such as minor bag marks or tiny rim
indentations*.
aUNC: Almost uncirculated – These coins have been found in circulation; however, they
look brand spanking new.
CIRC: Circulated – These coins vary in quality, i handpick every coin to ensure that
the coin you receive is lightly circulated and is not junk, there will be no
coin cancer (any greening/major toning), some coins may have lost some luster.
Generally speaking, these coins have been in the hands of the general public
and used as change in one point in their life.

with 4 or more coins are vacuum sealed (These bags have a PE liner, so you may
leave them in the original packaging for long term storage).
POSTAGE/HANDLING:
Since
the queen’s passing, we have received unprecedented demand for these coins and
have had to increase our handling time. Our team is working hard and diligently
to have your coins shipped out as soon as possible.
All
orders under the value of $50 are sent with free untracked postage (It is
recommended to purchase tracked postage @$3.50).
All
orders above the value of $50 are sent with free tracked postage.
There
are options to add tracked postage if your order falls below $50 or express
postage when purchasing your coins.
