Antique Victorian skirt from the Civil War era is brown polished cotton lined. The skirt is fashioned of black and white plaid silk taffeta with ruffles of black silk taffeta, and a black silk taffeta waistband. The back of the skirt has a hook and eye closure which looks to have been extended. There is cartridge pleating at the waistline; The seams and the entire bottom tiers are all hand sewn. Another great touch is the deep hand sewn pocket in this skirt. I just love it! The condition is good to age; although the silk appears strong at first glance the silk is showing signs of shatter when held up to the light you can see it. This is throughout. No holes tears yet. The lower tiers have the original polished cotton lining; the upper portion of the skirting has had the polished cotton cut away.
