Saint Anthony of the Desert

Holy Medal on 24" Chain

A brand new religious medal with a great updated image of one of our earliest Christian monks of the Egyptian desert who gave rise to later monasticism.  St Anthony of the Desert, also called Anthony Abbot, Anthony of Egypt, Anthony the Anchorite and Anthony of Thebes. He lived from 251-356 AD - 105 years!  Considered a great holy man, he had the gift of healing and even animals would seek him in the desert for healing, which is why he is the patron saint of animals, especially farm animals.  He was followed along by a pig whose illness he cured, and today on his feast day in some parts of the world, cattle and other farm animals are blessed.  He is also the patron saint of farmers, butchers, brush makers, basket weavers, and people with shingles and other skin diseases.

Made in Italy; the 1" nickel silver medal comes with a 24" stainless steel chain, which is continuous, meaning it has no clasp.  This makes it easy to slip on and off over your head, without worrying about a clasp coming apart.  Fits over most heads.  Comes gift boxed and with a St St Anthony Abbot prayer card, gift bag and tissue paper - all ready for gift-giving!

The prayer cards which come with our rosaries, medals and pictures are home-made, created using a "greeting card" program on a computer and printed in full color on nice quality paper. Although they are not like the usual smaller professionally printed prayer cards, most of our customers prefer them since they are like a pamphlet with 4 "pages" and several images, prayers, patronages and often other information about the saint or Catholic devotion.
