This canvas print features a highly detailed hand drawn illustration of John Entwistle’s Alembic Explorer, by George Morgan.

Printed using Epson UltraChome HDR 10-colour pigmented ink onto 270gsm natural cotton canvas and supplied pre-stretched around a 38mm thick pine frame with brass fixings ready to hang on your wall.

John Entwistle’s Alembic Explorer.

In The 1970’s John had three 4-string Explorer-shaped Alembics produced like the one illustrated here plus one with a V-shaped headstock and an 8-string version.
Alembic Explorers have bodies of birdseye maple and walnut with sterling silver wire spider’s web inlays. The graphite-reinforced neck of laminated walnut and maple has a fingerboard with mother-of-pearl music-note inlays.
Electronic circuitry connects two medium impedance pickups, internal preamp and a dummy pickup for hum cancellation. A 5-pin connector allows the signal to be distributed to an amplifier, PA or recording console.
Two master volume controls are provided with a selector switch for presets. Tone controls are active low pass filters.
John used an Alembic Explorer for almost all his studio recording and live concerts until 1985 when his main Explorer failed at the beginning of The Who’s performance at Live Aid. It was sold to The Hard Rock Café in 2003 for £50,400.
