Photograph Notes: There is a 17th century coal mine, 100 yds W of Cove harbour. There appears to be two entrances at this point into tunnels, both with similar channels hewn out of the rock on the beach as can be seen here. The mine is made up of two horizontal levels and four vertical shafts, three of which descend below sea level. Two horizontal levels are joined by a rock-cut stairway 60ft below ground level.
