The binding of this book is particularly attractive, as you can see in the photos:   shaped leather with a gilt urn, etc.    Book itself is in fair to good condition; binding is quite loose (again, please see photos).   Inside front cover is waxy--almost like vellum or parchment--not sure what that's about but seems to be original to the book.  

Book plate of William Handy Ludlow, father of General William Ludlow and himself a well known statesman in New York and served as an officer in the Civil War.
