Ethanol based extraction will allow you to create a more pure, cleaner, and stronger oil than a Rosin Press and with less waste. When using a Rosin Press, your resulting oil will have a high amount of fats and waxes in it, lowering the strength of your oil and making it less pure. With ethanol extraction and utilizing cold temperatures, we are able to heavily limit the amount of fats, waxes and chlorophyll that gets into our oil, giving us a cleaner and stronger end product.
When Rosin Pressing, you have chips left behind that still have oil in them and would otherwise be wasted. You are able to soak those in ethanol, filter out the plant material, then run that solution in our equipment to get that oil that otherwise would have been wasted. Many get our equipment to do that, then end up just going with ethanol extraction the whole way and discarding their press.
As well, some use the process of “winterization” to remove the fats and waxes from their Rosin. This involves them dissolving the Rosin into ethanol, bringing it to low temperatures, filtering the solution to remove the fats, then evaporating the ethanol to have their oil cleaned up. It would be more efficient to just skip the Rosin Pressing altogether and perform ethanol based extraction instead.
