Photograph Notes: Depicting a very realistic-looking elephant with castle - presumably the carver had seen a real elephant: the first one of the species to reach Great Britain was an elephant given by Louis IX of France to Henry III of England, for his menagerie in the Tower of London, in 1255. The church of SS Peter & Paul > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/861761 has a round tower that is capped with a lead spike. Extensively restored during the 19th century, and because of the absence of stained glass windows - apart from a few small fragments of medieval glass high up in one of the south wall windows > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/861804 - the interior is bright and airy > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/861773 - http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/861808. There is a C15 font > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/861814 with a cover that is dated to 1638 > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/861816. The pulpit > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/861780 dates from 1635. Most notable, though, is the fine collection of medieval bench ends > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/861784 - http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/861787 - http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/861801 depicting animals, musicians and scenes from everyday life. The church is open every day. For more information see: http://www.norfolkchurches.co.uk/tuttington/tuttington.htm
