An ornate antique Victorian silverplate casket made by Webster. It has a domed lid with a pin hinge, two ornamental bands, and a finial that has been polished down. There are sets of two knobs on each side of the dome. The body of the casket has a textured finish and a slide in drawer with barbell pull. The words “To Miss Naomi E. Webster” are engraved on the front base of the dome. The casket rests on four pierced raised scrolling feet.

The mark WEBSTER CO. SILVERPLATE in a circle around a crown is stamped on the base. Above the circle is the word QUADRUPLEPLATE. The production number 210 is also stamped.

CONDITION

The front right foot is slightly bent. The finial has been polished down. An attachment to the knobs that keeps the lid from opening all the way is missing. The drawer slide is bent (although you don’t really see it) and there is a small dent to the bottom of the drawer. Most of the silver has been polished off. Some of the texturing on surface of the lid is also worn. The casket has a nice exotic look for the age.

A great piece of Victoriana to add to a collection or leave out for an interesting, exotic display. You could even put your jewelry in it.
