Please find for sale 25+ fresh Cyprus Olive seeds (Olea Europaea). If you want to save yourself some time, every spring I also sell a small number of young olive plants that I have raised from seed.

Olives have been eaten in the UK for over 2,000 years and contrary to what you might think, the English climate is perfect for growing Olive trees. Olives are hardy and frost resistant to -15C without the need to fleece - they actually need at least three months a year of cold weather to flower and fruit. They are wind resistant and drought hardy, a winning combination that means Olive trees are truly easy to grow.

PLEASE NOTE: ALL ORDERS RECEIVED BEFORE 8PM (MON-FRI) WILL BE DISPATCHED SAME DAY

Germination Instructions

Germinating olive seeds takes a bit of a knack ,but once you learn it, it is easy and I can process  60+ seeds in 30 minutes. Olive seeds (pits) have a very hard outer shell which needs to be "nicked" to allow moisture to penetrate and allow germination. Have a look at all the videos online - easier than explaining here.

However, my technique is:

  • Soak the seeds in water for a day or so
  • W a small pair of wire cutters to carefully snip off the THIN end of the seed taking care not to damage the embryo inside
  • Plant them up in a trays of compost and place on window sill or in greenhouse/porch.
  • Patience is required and germination can be erratic but I get 75% germination rate which I am more than happy with.
