Joseph Wauters , born in Rosoux-Crenwick on November 8 , 1875and died in Uccle on June 30 , 1929, is a Belgian politician who lived in Waremme . Summary Biography Bas relief "POUR QUE LE PEUPLE LISE" in memory of Joseph Wauters on the facade of the old printing house of the daily Le Peuple in Brussels. Joseph Wauters belongs to a peasant family. He is the oldest of the nine children of Gustave Wauters (born February 28, 1842) and Caroline Sera (born August 15, 1847). Doctor in physico-chemical sciences, Joseph Wauters directs laboratory work at the University of Liège where he obtained his diplomas. Later, he became interested in the social field and the living conditions of workers. In 1895 , he founded the first Secours Mutuel society . At the end of the war , he was part of the new Government of National Unity as Minister of Industry, Labor and Supply. It was in this position that he passed the law of eight hours . He died on June 30, 1929 from a long illness. No known descendants came from her marriage. Education and career

He was appointed professor at the Tannery School for a year. He taught physics and chemistry and ran the testing and research laboratory. He writes the technical and economic bulletin of the Liège Leather Exchange .

He stopped teaching in 1910 after his appointment as director of the newspaper "Le Peuple".

In 1895, he founded the first mutual aid fund for sick workers as well as the first paving workers' union in 1898 . He created the first cooperation in an agricultural region in Waremme.
