As the only fighter equipped with a cooled engine during the Greater East Asia War, the Type 3 Fighter Hien was active as one of the main fighters of the Japanese Army from 1943. Although its engine had reliability problems due to the low industrial capacity of the time, it excelled not only in speed and maneuverability, but also in maneuverability and stability, and remained in service until the end of the war. The Type I-B was the second type to be mass-produced, and was equipped with a total of four 12.7mm cannon on its fuselage and wings. It was mainly deployed in the New Guinea area.
