Not everyone who loves Dune today is familiar with the classic 1984 film Dune.  If you were a fan of the book you were eager to see some of the characters portrayed on the big screen.  Let's just say it didn't go so well.  But, there turns out the be a silver lining.  It was so bad that it's a classic among beloved sci-fi gone wrong.  I didn't see the 1984 film until after I read the novel by Frank Herbert.  I understand they butchered it and some liberties the film took had me searching online winding how I could have missed that bizarre detail from the book.  Turns out they added it in the movie for no reason whatsoever.
