The Holmes and Edwards Silver Co was established in 1882 in Bridgeport succeeding to Rogers and Britten. They produced plated flatware. Employee William A. Warner of Syracuse invented and patented a technique of inlaying blocks of sterling silver at the wear points on the back of spoons and forks prior to plateng them. This brought the firm a gold medal at the Columbian Exposition in 1893 and a prominent place in the silverplate industry. The firm was taken over by the International Silver Company in 1898.
