Political satirical novel by Claude Prosper Jolyot de Crébillon, a notable French novelist, containing thinly veiled attacks on the Papal bull Unigenitus, the cardinal de Rohan and others, landed the author briefly in the prison at Vincennes.

Published in 1735. Fake publishing data on the title page "In Beijing, Chez Lou-Chou-Chu-La", which was an attempt to escape French censorship. Volume 2 of 2 only.

Contemporary full leather binding in good condition, marbled endpapers. Red/black title page. Complete, clean unmarked pages, tight text block.
