Kinsey had made a journey to Portugal the year before in an attempt to gain knowledge of it to bring back to the English speaking world. During his time there he kept detailed journals and wrote letters to a friend of his travels. It's a beautiful book of the culture and history of Portugal.


Illustrated with engravings by G. Cooke and Skelton. 17 uncolored plates, 9 hand-colored costume plates, and a folding map of Portugal. The plates include a long folding frontispiece view of the University of Coimbra.


Condition of binding is VG, and the inside is Good.

Bound in green cloth, with gilt letters of the author and year on the spine, and 7 double lined gilt bands on the spine.

The binding is strong with no splits or cracks. There is minor shelf wear to the boards, the corners are only slightly bumped, some heavy foxing throughout (mostly worse in the first half of the book), and the title page has an owners inscription at the top that goes through the title(pictured).


The authors inscription reads- Presented to Miss Stephens with the respectful esteem of the author 1828. There are no other copies online that also contain the handwritten inscription by the author.
