There's a You Tube video of Mike Verduin tying the Cap Spider at a fishing show. He tells a cute story on how it got it's name and gives his recommendations on how it should be tied. He states that he won 3 World Championships with this fly. That's a pretty good recommendation.
I tied these to his specification. i used a 1/124th Oz. Jig head #10 hook. I used white chenille ( not one of his preferred colors ) and 1 strand of black and white bared Sili Legs ( the only legs he says he ever uses) cut into quarters. He didn't specify thread but I used 140 white.
It's a great bait. I use three baits almost exclusively for bluegills. The Gill Getter, The Bully Bluegill Spider and the Cap Spider.
