Antique Fish Print-SPOTTED SCAT-TEARDROP BUTTERFLYFISH-Bonnaterre-1788

Description: This attractive ichthyological print originates from "Tableau Encyclopedique et Methodique des Trois Regnes de la Nature", the volume on Ichtchyologie. This massive work was made by l'Abbe Pierre Joseph Bonnaterre, and published in Paris by Panckoucke in 1788.

Artists and Engravers: Abbe Pierre Joseph Bonnaterre (1752-1804) was a French naturalist. He added copious portions on mammals, birds, reptiles, insects, and fish to the Encyclopedie Methodique. In total he created around 400 illustrations for this work. Bonnaterre is credited with 25 new species of fish.

Subject: Plate: 94 with figures 386-387. It is titled: L'Argus & la Tache noire - Chetodon Argus & C. Unimaculatus (Spotted Scat & Teardrop Butterflyfish).

Condition: Very good, given age. Some foxing in the margins. General age-related toning and/or occasional light soiling from handling. Please study scan carefully.

Size (in cm): The overall size is ca. 21 x 29 cm. The image size is ca. 16 x 23.5 cm.
Size (in inch): The overall size is ca. 8.3 x 11.4 inch. The image size is ca. 6.3 x 9.3 inch.
