Frequently Asked Questions

How did you come up with this idea?  We collect and use our vintage skillets every day.  We were tired of not having a good way to store them.

Why are you doing this?  We don’t want to spend $500 on an original skillet rack, but we want the quality of those vintage racks.  In our experience all of the store-bought racks are cheap and made by overseas companies.  We are not big business – we are a family business trying to fill a void and we’ve always dreamed of doing something like this.

Why model it similar to the Wagner design from the 1950's?  We bought several different vintage racks including Griswold, a few types of Wagner’s and some generic designs.  The Griswold design really only works with Griswold skillets due to the low wire bend and space between wires.  The Wagner had more generous space between the wires and the wire bend loop is slightly higher—which keeps all brands of skillets at a better angle.  We also like the three-point contact with the countertop so there is absolutely no bend or sag when your skillets are on display.

Why only four skillets and one griddle, I have a whole set?  It is a compromise.  If you have the entire set you know there is no manufacturer that has a rack from, in the case of Griswold, 2-14.  We built these to be used, and we felt that four skillets and one griddle is the perfect starter set and the sizes most users have in their kitchen.

What is the perfect set?  We built this to hold several different size skillets.  The most popular is a 3, 5, 7, 8 and a round skillet griddle.  However, it will also hold different configurations such as a 3, 5, 6, 9 and round griddle.  We even tried a #12 Griswold and it worked fine!

Does the rack require any maintenance?  No, it is electro plated and will not rust.  It is not shiny like chrome, but more of a gun metal grey electroplating—just like the originals.  If it gets greasy, just use a little dish soap to clean.  Use common sense and don’t put it in the dishwasher.

Why didn’t you make a Griswold or Wagner sign?  We are a small business, not lawyers, and we didn’t want any trademark issues.

What is the sign made out of?  It is made out of painted aluminum and lettering.  No cheap plastic or decals are used.

What if I want the rack but not the sign?  We only ship the rack and sign together.

Will the metal scratch my countertop?  The “feet” of the rack are polished and ground so there are no sharp edges.  We’ve had the prototype on our Formica counter for over 6 months with no issues.

Could I repaint the sign?  Once you own it you can do whatever you want with it.  Some customers have repainted and reproduced their favorite skillet brand on the sign.

Will the rack hold other types of pans that are not cast iron?  We tried a few and yes you could use these for other types of skillets.

Are any of the skillets or the Wagner comparison rack depicted in the photos included?  No.

Where are these racks made?  The signs are made in Canada.  The wire used in the rack is made in the USA and the racks are manufactured in Ohio.  The racks are then assembled and shipped from Ohio.

Geography sold?  Continental USA only.
